BIOGRAPHY

Sara Palin was born February 11, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Her family relocated to Alaska when she was very young. Coming from an All-American type of family, Sara Palin was known as a scholar-athlete throughout her early school days, receiving many awards and scholarships, as well as placing high in pageants such as Miss Alaska, where she was placed third in 1984. She attended Hawaii Pacific University, North Idaho College, University of Idaho, and Matanuska-Sisitna College, earning not only a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism, but also many distinguished awards for her accomplishments.

After college, her first jobs were for news channels, where she worked as a sportscaster and sports reporter, putting herself in the public eye officially for the first time. She quickly expressed her political aspirations, and rose from city council member, to mayor, to finally become the youngest and first female governor of Alaska in 2006. It is widely assumed by Palin supporters that her political career has hardly hit its peak.

Sara Palin eloped with her high-school sweetheart Todd Palin on August 29, 1988. In 1989 they had their first child, Track. The Palins have four more children, Bristol (born 1990), Willow (born 1994), Piper (born 2001), and Trig (born 2008). Their youngest son, Trig, was born with Down Syndrome. Palin frequently refers to herself as a “hockey mom,” who prides herself on her family accomplishments and values. She has worked closely with her husband, Todd, in his commercial fishing business.

Sara Palin’s oldest daughter, Bristol, announced an unplanned pregnancy during the early part of her vice presidential campaign. Sara Palin, a staunch pro-life supporter with deep religious convictions, attempted to protect her teenage daughter’s privacy until she became a single parent with the birth of her son, Tripp, in December 2008, while the news media debated the family values involved. The Palins supported their daughter while she and her son lived with them, despite frequent blasts from the media as well as “on-again-off-again” fiancée, Levi Johnston, the father of Tripp.

The Palins have deep religious convictions as members of the Wasilla Bible Church, and describe their family as “Bible believing Christians” who strive to live a spiritually full and healthy life.

Sara Palin has come to be known as a powerful American political figure, a successful author, and a much sought after public speaker since her vice presidential campaign. A controversial figure, Palin confidently expresses her opinions on politics, family values, government, ethics, education, labor and other issues.
